As a Volunteer

As a Bandaide Volunteer
Musically educated non-impaired volunteers
(ages 16 and over) assist individuals when
necessary and play alongside our players.
Volunteers are asked to commit to a year of
Monday night rehearsals from 6:30 p.m. to 8
p.m. and three concerts a year.

As a Musical Volunteer
Volunteers play instruments in our traditional
band that accompanies the
interPLAYcompany Band in performances.
Instruments include trumpets, flutes, cellos,
clarinets, violins, guitars, drums. What do
you play? Some of our musical volunteers
are also bandaides. You can be both!

As a Guest Performer
We are always looking for guest artists to
participate in our performances and have
worked with conductors and musical artists
with national and local reputations.

Write Original Music for the
Band to Perform
We are interested in playing your work and
for your participation in performing it!
Original music must include basic percussion
and can include band accompaniment.

As an Adult With and
Without Cognitive
and/ or Physical
Disabilities

Guidelines
Most band members have moderate to
mild cognitive disabilities that often make
it difficult to learn to read and play music
in the conventional way. We give them the
opportunity to express themselves in the
universally understood language of music.

interPLAYcompany Band employs
unconventional teaching techniques that
enhance cognitive, social and motor skills.
Many of our players do not have access
to therapies that address their continual
need for cognitive and physical
development.

The band plays a wide repertoire of music
including classical, jazz, Broadway, folk,
light and grand opera, vocal and
drumming. Band members learn to play
professional percussion, tonal and folk
instruments from around the world and
enjoy the exhilaration of vocal music, solo
and ensemble.

Who Can Join?
Adults ages 23 and over, with cognitive
disabilities are eligible to interview with
staff. Minimum requirements for
participation are the ability to:

1. Count to 10 expressively or receptively
2. Understand and follow the verbal and
gestural cues of the conductor
3. Produce sound from an instrument
4. Regulate behavior during rehearsals
and concert performances

Must have reliable transportation to
attend weekly rehearsals and
concerts.

Currently we have adult music performers
with the following disabilities: mental
retardation, cerebral palsy, various
physical impairments, neurological
disorders, traumatic brain injury, visual
impairments, cognitive disabilities,
dyslexia, multiple sclerosis, muscular
dystrophy, and/or mild to severe learning
